His laboratory has been studying the relationship between peripheral hormones and circuits of the central nervous system that, in turn, regulate complex, goal-oriented behaviors and whole body energy metabolism. They have been analyzing the regulatory principles of hypothalamic circuits and their effects on complex behaviors. From these studies, they assert that hypothalamic circuit activity impacts the reward circuit neuronal energy metabolism by altering mitochondrial dynamics.

Other Experience and Professional Memberships

1992-
Member, Society for Neuroscience

1992-
Member, International Brain Research Organization

1994-

Contribution to the KPA I:

His work on developmental control of hypothalamic neuronal circuits and mitochondrial mechanisms of neuronal control will synergistically interface with many of the projects of Prof. Brüning and other members of CECAD in Cologne.
