Explore the Barbarastollen Mine!
Do you want to dive into the fascinating world of mining history right under the University of Cologne? Then join us for a visit to the Barbarastollen, the most unusual mining museum in North Rhine-Westphalia, located beneath the main building of the University of Cologne. This unique museum features a replica of a coal mine tunnel that you can explore in person.
About the Barbarastollen:
The Barbarastollen was constructed in 1930 as a teaching tool for geology students. However, after World War II, the knowledge of the mine was lost. It wasn’t until the early 1980s, during renovations of the nearby cellar rooms, that the tunnel was rediscovered. The mine was restored and expanded to its current form.
