What level of German language skills do I need to study at the University of Cologne?
You will need very good German language skills to study in German. Therefore, you should have at least level DSH-2 („Deutsche Sprachprüfung für den Hochschulzugang“ = German language test for university entry). How can I apply for a Prepatory German Course?
I was a student in my home country and would like to complete my degree at the University of Cologne. What should I do?
It is possible to apply for entry into a more advanced semester (so 2nd, 3rd or 4th instead of starting at the 1st) in all courses. In order to do so, you need to request a „Fachsemestereinstufung“ (classification for a higher course-related semester) at the respective Examination Office.

How can I find out if I am eligible to study with my school leaving certificate?
What can I do if I don’t have a direct university admission?
If you have a certificate which does not allow your entry at the university directly („indirekte Hochschulzugangsberechtigung“), you can visit a preparatory college („Studienkolleg“). There, you can perform the „Assessment Test of Aptitude“. Please find an overview about preparatory colleges („Studienkollegs“) in Germany here: http://www.studienkollegs.de/home.html
At the University of Cologne we offer the programme „Studienstart International Plus“ for different undergraduated degree programmes. This means, that you can take a „University of Cologne Entrance Exam“ for your chosen discipline.
What is the TestAS and why do I need it?
1) What is the TestAS?
The TestAS is central, standardised aptitude test for foreign students. Fees are charged for the TestAS and it is offered in German and English.
2) Why do I need a TestAS:
You need a TestAS for the application for an undergraduate degree (Bachelor’s degree) at the University of Cologne (except for law and Bachelor of Education). Depending on the respective study course, you need a specific TestAS score. Please find more information at the following website (under „7.
