Language support
The Division ‘International Affairs’ within the framework of Studienstart International is always looking for volunteer language tutors (German as a native language), preferably from the teaching profession.
The task of the language tutors is to meet and talk to foreign students regularly in a relaxed atmosphere (café, walk, etc.), to discuss certain topics in advance if necessary and to correct mistakes after consultation.
The language support is intended to improve the foreign students' (oral) German language skills and reduce their inhibitions about speaking, while at the same time promoting networking in Cologne.
The target group is currently primarily foreign undergraduate students who spend their entire studies at the University of Cologne.
The key points are
- Regular meetings (1:1) e.g. weekly or bi-weekly for 30-90 minutes (over a semester, preferably longer) in a relaxed atmosphere (café, walk etc.)
- Asking the students' ideas and expectations and agreeing on a rhythm
- Conversations about everyday things or selected topics (e.g. using newspaper articles, news, videos, etc.)
- Opportunity to correct mistakes (after consultation with students)
The foreign students usually already have a good level of German, but do not have the opportunity to communicate sufficiently in German.
Language tutors will of course be issued with a certificate from the Division ‘International Affairs’ for their voluntary work.
