Application procedure for Non-EU-Citizens without Formal University Entrance Qualification

Studienstart International plus

Important note for your application for the winter semester 2020/21! The application deadline for undergraduate programmes, 1st semester, has been postponed to 20.8.2020. If you encounter difficulties in preparing your application documents, please contact https://portal.uni-koeln.de/en/international/contact/contact-form-admission-international

The following application procedure is applicable to Non-EU-citizens.

Exception: The procedure is also applicable for Non-EU/EEA-citizens, who are on equal admission terms as German or EU/EEA-citizens: You are holding a German university entrance qualification (Abitur) or a EU/EEA university entrance qualification (only valid for locally restricted subjects, not for medicine or dentistry). OR: You are living in Germany and you are married to a German or EU/EEA-citizen (also applies for legal civil unions).

If your secondary school leaving certificate is not recognized in Germany as a general or subject-specific entrance qualification, we offer you an alternative procedure to gain admission. You may apply for the University of Cologne Entrance Exam (in German: the so called Zugangsprüfung).

Whether your secondary school leaving certificate is recognized in Germany and conforms to the German university entrance qualification can be checked here:
