Program for teachers with a refugee background at the University of Cologne

You worked as a teacher in your home country and live as a refugee in Germany? We are looking forward to your application!

In the annual program for further qualification (August 2020 - July 2021) you will be prepared for a C1 German examination (TELC/DSH/TestDaF) in German language courses. You will get an insight into the educational system in Germany accompanied by the university. Furthermore, seminars in which you will get to know the German school system are offered. Based on that you will work on current topics in teacher training. Each participant is individually advised concerning his or her career prospects. You can find further information about the program here (only available in German).

The program is conducted in cooperation between the International Office, the Mercator Institute for Literacy and Language Education/the Intercultural Education Research Department and the Centre for Teacher Education (ZfL) at the University of Cologne.

Further information on the requirements for an application can be found on the factsheet (see bottom left).

In order to apply, you must provide evidence of at least one subject that is offered in the teacher training program at the University of Cologne. You can find an overview here (only available in German). (If you click on the individual teacher training courses at the bottom of the page, you will find the respective subjects offered.)

General information and an overview of teacher training at the University of Cologne can be found in this brochure and on the website of the Centre for Teacher Training (only available in German).

Please note that an applications for the program, starting in August 2020, is no longer possible. Another program run 2021/22 is planned. We will write down further information concerning the application here.

Please note:
Participation in the program does not guarantee direct employment as a teacher at a German school. You will be counseled throughout the program concerning alternative options.
