The Buddy Programme:

The aim of the project is to provide participants with a refugee background in the preparatory German courses in different life situations (mentees) with a buddy, i.e. one of you, for one semester. The programme is aimed at students at the University of Cologne and the TH.

As a committed buddy, you help your mentees to arrive in Cologne, get to know the city and the university, and settle into their new home. You support them with tips and advice on everyday life. Through personal contact, you promote the social (and linguistic) integration of your mentees in Cologne. You make new contacts and get to know new cultures.

The Buddy Programme is part of the format Service Learning des ProfessionalCenters. We expect intercultural empathy, commitment and enjoyment of the work.

Programme schedule:

• A buddy accompanies 1 - 2 participants of our language courses (mentees) for one semester.
• Approx. 40 - 50 hours of work as a buddy per semester
• 3 - 7 buddies per semester take part in the programme
• Attendance at the accompanying course: Interkulturelle Kommunikation in der Begleitung multikultureller (Lern)Gruppen
• Participation in the opening and closing events
• Participation can be credited to the degree programme: 3 LPs in the Studium Integrale (BA), in the extracurricular offer (MA) or as a professional internship (teaching profession).

Digital kick-off: 25.04.2024, 6 - 7:30 p.m.
Analogue Closing: 25.07.2024, 6 - 8 pm

Registration for the summer semester 2024:

Students of all faculties of the University of Cologne as well as students of the TH Köln (F01 & F03) can register for the Buddy Programme. Registration takes place via the Service Learning Programm.
