University of Cologne Egypt Office

In line with our internationalization strategy and with our aim to contribute to the implementation of the United Nations‘ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in particular SDG17 “Partnerships for the Goals“, the University of Cologne is expanding its presence in the MENA-Region with the inauguration of its newest liaison office in Cairo, Egypt. Starting from June 2022 at the headquarter of the DAAD Regional Office in Zamalek, Cairo, our liaison office’s main mission is to consolidate and to expand academic partnerships with universities in Egypt and in the neighboring countries. Our liaison office in Cairo serves as a key link between students, researchers and professors from the University of Cologne and our partner universities and institutions in Egypt. For delegations from Cologne, the office can assist in organizing and accompanying visits to the Egyptian universities and academic institutions as well as in organizing academic events. Additionally, our liaison office in Cairo provides detailed information about possible paths for studying, conducting research, and for networking in Germany and in particular in the city of Cologne.

Best Practices

The University of Cologne has a long tradition of collaborations with universities and institutions in Egypt and in the MENA-Region in many academic fields. To name a few, in the fields of Archeology, Egyptology, Heritage Studies, Economics and Middle-Eastern Studies. Recently, the Global Responsibility Unit at the International Office of the University of Cologne has started a number of collaboration projects with universities in the MENA-Region, namely Egypt and Morocco. Below are short descriptions of these projects.
