The DAAD Prize for Outstanding Achievement by International Students at German Universities for the year 2024, which amounts to 1,000 Euro, was awarded by the University of Cologne to Ekaterina Loginova from Russia .

Alongside her studies in human medicine at the University of Cologne, 21-year-old Ekaterina Loginova has been volunteering in various organisations for several years. After volunteering with the German Red Cross, she has been a member of the Malteser volunteer interpreter pool since March 2024. She accompanies war-wounded and evacuated cancer patients from Ukraine to medical appointments and helps them to find their way around the German healthcare system. Accompanying refugees through the German healthcare system is also the focus of the Health Buddies working group, in which she was involved in the winter semester 2023/24. The topic of ‘Equal opportunities in higher education’ is also one of Ms Loginova's favourite topics. In the summer semester of 2024, she mentored students with a migration background or from non-academic families in the subject of histology as part of the ‘Medicus Kickstarter’ project. She was also available as a buddy and contact person for all questions relating to studying in Cologne for an exchange student from China and for first-year students from non-EU countries as part of the ‘Studienstart International’ programme. Since March 2024, Ms Loginova has also been a board member of RuSa, the Russian university group at the University of Cologne.

The DAAD Prize is sponsored by the German Academic Exchange Service and awarded by the universities. The University of Cologne has been awarding it since 1995 and has so far honoured students from over twenty different countries. The prize is awarded to international students for special academic achievements. The award was presented on October 11, 2024 at the City of Cologne's Town Hall Reception for international students from all of Cologne's universities in the historic Cologne Town Hall.
