Jun.-Prof. Dr. Benedikt Ballensiefen

Benedikt Ballensiefen ist seit November 2024 Juniorprofessor für Investments an der Universität zu Köln. In dieser Funktion vertritt er die Wirtschafts- und Sozialwissenschaftliche Fakultät im Junior Faculty Club.
Er promovierte an der Universität St. Gallen (HSG) im Bereich der internationalen Finanzmärkte. Im Anschluss war er als Finanzökonom mit einem von der deutschen Bundesregierung verliehenen Fellowship bei der Weltbank in Washington, D.C., tätig. Dort befasste er sich schwerpunktmäßig mit der Entwicklung und Stabilität von Finanzmärkten in Schwellen- und Entwicklungsländern.
Seine Forschungsschwerpunkte liegen in den Bereichen Asset Pricing, Geldpolitik und Marktstruktur, mit besonderem Fokus auf deren Zusammenspiel im internationalen Kontext.
 

Benedikt Ballensiefen has been the junior professor of investments at the University of Cologne since November 2024. In this role, he represents the Faculty of Management, Economics and Social Sciences in the Junior Faculty Club.
He earned his PhD from the University of St. Gallen (HSG), specializing in international financial markets. Following his doctoral studies, he worked as a financial economist at the World Bank in Washington, D.C., supported by a fellowship awarded by the German government. During his time there, he focused on the development and stability of financial markets in emerging and developing economies.
His research interests lie in asset pricing, monetary policy, and market microstructure, with a particular emphasis on their interaction in an international context.
