PD Dr. Björn Schiffbauer
Since May, 2017, PD Dr. Björn Schiffbauer represents the Faculty of Jurisprudence as a board member of the Junior Faculty Club. He holds a position as Akademischer Rat at the Department of International Law and Comparative Public Law of the University of Cologne since December 2013. He also is an assistant professor of Prof. Dr. Bernhard Kempen. Since January 2021 he has the authorization to teach public law, international and European law as well as constitutional and legal theory.
Björn Schiffbauer studied law from 2002 till 2007. First, he studied at the University of Passau (where he also completed a subject-specific foreign language training in English and Spanish). Later, from 2004 onwards, he continued at the University of Cologne (priority area: International and European Law). After his first examination , he worked as a resarch associate at the chair of Prof. Dr. Claus Kreß LL.M. of the University of Cologne, where he also obtained his doctoral degree. For his dissertation "Preventive self-defense in the international law", Björn Schiffbauer reveived the Osborne Clarke Award for International Law in 2012, and the Ehrhardt-Imelmann-Preis of the University of Cologne in 2013.
After finishing his thesis manuscript, Björn Schiffbauer worked as a junior lawyer in Cologne, Asunción, Düsseldorf and Lima until passing his second state examination in July, 2012. Following, he was involved in creating the new Institute for International Peace and Security Law at the University of Cologne. Furthermore, Björn Schiffbauer voluntarily works in different areas connected to sports, e.g. as a board member of the Fußball-Verband Mittelrhein, or as part of the supervisory committee of the Deutscher Fußball-Bund (German Football Association).
