The Competence Center Fair Trade was founded in July 2020 and is affiliated with the Global South Studies Center (GSSC) to promote the academic study of fair trade in the German-speaking world. In addition to supporting research and teaching, it provides a forum and institutional framework for professional exchange and networking. The Competence Center Fair Trade attaches importance to interdisciplinarity and also sees itself as a contact point for non-academic institutions and organizations. As part of the GSSC, the Competence Center also promotes cooperation with researchers from the Global South. With various event formats and publications, it contributes to the transfer of knowledge and addresses both the professional and the non-academic public. The Competence Center is co-financed by Transfair e.V.
