Law professor Angelika Nußberger will receive the Romano Guardini Prize of the Catholic Academy in Bavaria. The award of 10,000 euros honours Professor Dr Nußberger, who is committed to strengthening international law in theory and practice. The prize is named in honour of the religious philosopher and theologian Romano Guardini (1885–1968). The award ceremony is scheduled for 10 December in Munich. The laudatory speech will be given by the former President of the German Federal Constitutional Court, Andreas Voßkuhle.
The Catholic Academy in Bavaria believes that in times when the threat to democracy is a major issue, honouring someone who is committed to improving the rule of law is an important signal. Professor Dr Nußberger was a judge at the European Court of Human Rights from 2011 to 2019 and held the office of Vice-President from 2017 to 2019. She also chaired the Association of German Constitutional Law Teachers from 2022 to 2024.

Her research focuses on the protection of fundamental rights at the national, European and international level, Comparative Constitutional Law as well as the impact of international law on the administration of justice in Central and Eastern Europe.
