The University of Cologne is member
of the Scholars at Risk-Network

The University of Cologne (UoC) is member of the Scholars at Risk-network. The network is engaged around the globe to support threatened scholars and academic freedom.

Scholars at Risk (SAR) was founded in 1999 and has its head office in New York. Over 500 Universities in 40 countries are part of the network.

In 2016, following a decision of the rectorate, the University of Cologne joined the network and became a founding member of the Scholars at Risk Germany section, which is coordinated by the Alexander von Humboldt-foundation and represented through its steering committee. Since 2017 the UoC is a 'sustaining member'.

Apart from the active support for refugees and threatened scholars, UoC shows its institutional engagement for scholars, who cannot realize their work anymore because of threats and risks. The University of Cologne engages actively for the protection of free research and teaching.
