University of Cologne welcomes 4,600 freshers

45,000 students at the University of Cologne in the winter semester 2023/2024 / first semester students welcomed on campus and through a live stream

Since 4 October 2022, 45,000 students have been enrolled at the University of Cologne for the winter semester 2023/24. Around 4,600 students are starting their first semester at the university. To make the transition easier for them, the Rector Professor Dr Joybrato Mukherjee, the Vice-Rector for Teaching and Studies, Professor Dr Beatrix Busse, the Student Union (AStA) and other important contact points would like to welcome the newcomers to the University of Cologne. The press is cordially invited to this event.

The event takes place in the auditorium, as a live broadcast in the lecture hall building or via live stream on YouTube.

Around 27,800, or around 62 percent of the students are women. The total number of international students doing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree at the University of Cologne is currently around 5,000. This means that the university continues to have a constant share of international students of just under 11 percent.
