Arriving by Train for Persons with Disabilities

From Cologne Central Station

To reach the University of Cologne by train, it is best to disembark at the stations Köln Messe/Deutz or Köln Süd. The station Köln Messe/Deutz has an orientation system for people with visual impairments. Unfortunately these two stations are not wheelchair accessible. For a barrier-free route, it is best to disembark at Cologne Central Station.

Here you will find directions to the University of Cologne from the stations Köln Messe/Deutz, Köln Süd and Cologne Central Station.

From Köln Messe/Deutz 

After disembarking, go to the exit in the direction Lanxess Arena. Go down the stairs or take the elevator, then follow the signs to subway/tram line 9. Go down to the platform of line 9 in the direction Sülz by steps or escalator. Take the train with the final destination Sülz or Universität. Disembark at the station “Universität”. Leave the platform in the direction of travel and go to the intersection light on your right. Cross the intersection (Kerpener Strasse), then cross Meister-Ekkehart-Strasse. On the right-hand side you will then see a new building (UoC Student Service Center). The next building is the University of Cologne’s main building.

From Köln Süd 

Coming from the direction Brühl/Bonn/Euskirchen, the exit is located in the direction of travel. Go down the stairs to reach the stop “Dasselstrasse/Bahnhof Süd” of subway/tram line 9. Cross the street to take the tram in the direction Sülz or Universität. The next stop is already “Universität”. Disembark and go in the direction of travel to the intersection light on your right. Cross the intersection (Kerpener Strasse), then cross Meister-Ekkehart-Strasse.

On the right-hand side you will see a new building (UoC Student Service Center). The next building is the University of Cologne’s main building. Instead of taking the tram for one stop, you can also walk from Köln Süd. It takes approximately 10 minutes.Coming from the direction of Cologne Central Station, leave the platform in the direction of travel. Go down the stairs, turn left, and go up the steps to reach the other platform.

Go down the length of the platform and down the stairs to reach the stop “Dasselstrasse/Bahnhof Süd” of subway/tram line 9. Cross the street to take the tram in the direction Sülz or Universität. The next stop is already “Universität”. Disembark and go in the direction of travel to the intersection light on your right.

Cross the intersection (Kerpener Strasse), then cross Meister-Ekkehart-Strasse. On the right-hand side you will see a new building (UoC Student Service Center). The next building is the University of Cologne’s main building. Instead of taking the tram for one stop, you can also walk from Köln Süd. It takes approximately 10 minutes.

Wheelchair accessible route from Cologne Central Station

From a regional or long-distance train platform, take the elevator down and go in the direction of the exit Dom/City. The exit doors are very wide. On the left-hand side you will see the beauty shop Douglas. The elevators are located there. Take the elevator down one floor. After disembarking, follow the path and take the first right turn. There you will find another elevator that takes you to the platform of subway/tram lines 16 and 18 in the direction of Neumarkt. Take the underground line 16 or 18 and disembark at the stop “Neumarkt”.

At the end of the train, you will find an elevator that takes you to the station’s intermediate floor. After leaving the elevator, go left. After the second staircase on the left-hand side you will see another elevator that takes you up to street level. From there, go straight to reach the platform of subway/tram line 9. Take the train in the direction Sülz or Universität and disembark at the stop “Universität”. Disembark and go in the direction of travel to the intersection light on your right. Cross the intersection (Kerpener Strasse), then cross Meister-Ekkehart-Strasse. On the right-hand side you will see a new building (UoC Student Service Center). The next building is the University of Cologne’s main building.
