Interdisciplinary surveys

Initial Study Survey (SEB)

The aim of the survey is to provide a better understanding of the different starting conditions and specific needs of new students. In particular, critical feedback on the information, counselling and support services offered by the University of Cologne, which are specifically aimed at new students, is sought.

The SEB is designed as a quantitative online survey with a duration of approximately 15 minutes. For this purpose, Q³ invites students in the last lecture week of their first university semester via their S-MAIL account. As part of the survey, there is a regular draw. The terms and conditions of participation in the draw can be found here.

Student surveys

The University of Cologne regularly conducts surveys of its students in cooperation with external cooperation partners. This includes in particular ‘The Student Survey in Germany’ in cooperation with the German Center for Higher Education and Science Research (DZHW).

Graduate survey

The aim of the survey of graduates is to gain an insight into the course of study and the connections between studying at the University of Cologne and the subsequent and current employment situation of the graduates.

Since 2008, the university-wide survey of the respective previous examination year (PJ) has taken place as part of the compulsory participation every two years in the ‘Joint Project on Graduate Studies’ (KOAB) of the Institute for Applied Statistics (ISTAT).

For the interim years, a UoC-own survey was developed in cooperation with the Faculties and the central institutions. This survey was successfully tested for the first time in the survey of the PJ2015 and has since been carried out every two years.

Reporting and usage

In addition to the systemic use in the QM system Q³UoC, the results of the surveys are included in subject- and Faculty-specific reports.

In addition, special evaluations, such as for the Financial Times Ranking, as well as cross-survey evaluations on various topics, such as diversity, change of studies and dropping out, are carried out if necessary.
