Deutschlandstipendium

Together with committed sponsors, the University of Cologne supports students with above-average performance with the Deutschlandstipendium. Particularly qualified first-year students as well as students in higher semesters and master's students receive 300 euros per month for at least two semesters. Private sponsors lay the foundation for each Deutschlandstipendium with their donations, and the German Government tops up the sum accordingly. As a scholarship holder, you have the opportunity to get to know your sponsor. You can find an overview of the current sponsors here (only available in German).

Sozialstipendium

This kind of scholarship is awarded to students who are in need of financial support. Each scholarship amounts to 300 euros per month for at least two semesters. Private sponsors cover the entire funding. As a scholarship holder, you have the opportunity to get to know your sponsor. The Sozialstipendium is an independent scholarship of the University of Cologne and not part of the Deutschlandstipendium.

Scholarship for Students with Disabilities/Special Needs or Chronic Illness

This scholarship supports students who find it more difficult to manage their studies due to a disability or chronic illness. Each scholarship amounts to 300 euros per month for at least two semesters. Private sponsors cover the entire funding. As a scholarship holder, you have the opportunity to get to know your sponsor. The Scholarship for Students with Disabilities/Special Needs or Chronic Illness is an independent scholarship of the University of Cologne and not part of the Deutschlandstipendium.

Awarding of the Scholarships

Students actively apply for a scholarship. To do so, they submit, among other things, their transcript of records, a CV and a cover letter. The scholarships are then awarded by a central Awarding Committee, which is formed by representatives from all Faculties and other bodies represented at the University. Their task is to submit proposals to the Rectorate for the awarding of the scholarships.
