Orange The World Day: International Day to End Violence against Women
Every year, the campaign to end all forms of discrimination and violence against women and girls kicks off on 25 November. The University of Cologne is also setting a visible example on this day by illuminating the main building in orange. The United Nations chose the colour orange as a symbol for a world free from violence against women and girls. Many cities and organizations around the world and throughout Germany are taking part. The UN campaign ‘Orange The World’ has been drawing attention to violence since 1991.
Together with the member universities of LaKof NRW (Conference of Gender Equality Officers at Universities and University Hospitals NRW), the University of Cologne is also taking part in the ‘Bread bags against violence’ campaign: In the days around 25 November, canteens run by the Kölner Studierendenwerk will be using bread bags with ‘Gewalt kommt mir nicht auf den Campus’ (I don’t want violence on campus).
You can find all information about the campaign and presentations on the LaKof website.
Information on sexualized discrimination and violence as well as contact and counselling centres at the University of Cologne can be found on the website of the Central Gender Equality Officer and via the Not o.k. campaign of the University of Cologne.
