In the context of the economic boom in China and its associated global importance, it becomes more and more important to learn Chinese and to know about the Chinese culture. To adress this challenge, the China-NRW University Alliance organizes the Summer School in Shanghai, which provides students with first-hand insight into the Chinese culture and their traditions, as well as in today's business life. The summer school's purpose is to serve as a kind of introduction to the Chinese culture.

Testimonial by Pawel Gawronski

The Summer School in Shanghai at Tongji University was a great opportunity for students from China-NRW Alliance institutions to get an insight into Chinese culture and society and at the same time acquire basic Chinese language skills. Apart from lectures, the program comprised typical cultural events, such as shadow boxes, Chinese calligraphy, and Chinese painting which were highly valued by the students due to the immediate proximity to the culture.

Furthermore, excursions to Hangzhou and company visits to Siemens and BMW were offered so that the students were able to get an overview of the work at international corporations and also learn of job opportunities. Our evaluation has shown that participants were very satisfied and that they will recommend the Chinese Language Summer School to their friends and fellow students.
