Symplectic Techniques in Topology and Dynamics
Forum
The University of Cologne Forum "Symplectic Techniques in Topology and Dynamics" supports a network of pure and applied mathematicians, computer scientists and mathematical physicists at the universities of Cologne, Bochum, Dortmund and Münster.
Symplectic geometry is an area of mathematics rooted in the Hamiltonian formalism of classical mechanics. The aim of the Forum is to set up a basis for collaborative work in symplectic geometry and related fields beyond traditional boundaries of disciplines.
There is a strong focus on approaching fundamental questions in symplectic topology with new techniques coming from applied areas such as optimization theory or computer science. Conversely, we wish to explore exciting new applications of symplectic geometry, for instance to problems in celestial mechanics.
The Forum holds regular seminars with international Speakers at the participating universities, as well as longer workshops for promoting collaboration. The Forum also funds international conferences at the University of Cologne.
