Top Research for Society
The Institutional Strategy builds on the University of Cologne’s (UoC) tremendous potential of building profile areas of critical mass and high impact. To this end, The UoC has established thematically focused Key Profile Areas that address topics of high scientific and societal relevance. Each Key Profile Area is embedded into a thematically broad Competence Area that supports its integration into the whole UoC.
Key Profile Areas (KPAs)
The Key Profile Areas already build on proven scientific excellence. Within the Institutional Strategy they are further supported by strong measures including the establishment of new professorships or the International Faculty Program. Furthermore, Key Profile Areas can receive funding as a UoC Center of Excellence after positive external evaluation. The Key Profile Areas also profit from strong networks and close cooperation ties with regional research institutes as well as partners from the private sector.
