Campus in Dialogue – Improving the Student Experience at the University of Cologne
The quantitative-qualitative student survey Campus in Dialogue (CiD) aims to improve different aspects of studying at the university by collecting ideas and possible solutions directly from students and staff. The Vice-Rectorate for Studies and Teaching has been conducting the survey in continuous dialogue with students and staff since the start of the winter semester 2012/13. Therefore, we have already had the opportunity to evaluate existing concepts for improving studies and to incorporate new ideas towards quality enhancement. The survey focuses on the following topics:
- Course content, research and practical orientation
- The internationalisation of studies
- Student advice and support
- Structures of degree programmes, teaching quality and teaching space
A special feature of the survey is the fact that it combines quantitative and qualitative data. Therefore, the questionnaire (German) used for the first university-wide survey not only contained questions with rating scales, but also gave participants the opportunity to provide their ideas in detail in free-text boxes. You can find detailed information on the survey methodology here (German).
