Research Alliance Cologne
The UoC is part of a dense network of regional non-university research institutions, and has established excellent, long-standing collaboration projects with these partners. The Research Alliance Cologne brings together all partners of this cooperation network. Its activities include:
Joint Strategic Development
To this end, meetings will take place with alliance partners to foster this joint development. In addition, new cooperative research projects will be systematically introduced.
Advancing Graduate Students and Early-stage Researchers
The UoC has created four joint International Max Planck Research Schools (IMPRS) and three joint graduate programs with Helmholtz Institutes. These graduate schools are part of the network of the university-wide Albertus Magnus Graduate Center. Furthermore, the UoC Junior Faculty Club is open to junior researchers from non-university partners in the RAC.
The Faculty and Staff Development Department (PE Wiss) is responsible for supporting the career and professional skills development of all early-stage researchers.
Use of Facilities and Infrastructure
The Clusters of Excellence CECAD and CEPLAS already share key infrastructure with the Max Planck Institutes for Metabolism Research, Biology of Ageing, and Plant Breeding Research. In Big Data, there are also close cooperation schemes.
Research-oriented Teaching
Scholars and scientists from various RAC partner institutions also teach at the University of Cologne. And research-oriented teaching formats are well-established in the UoC’s Clusters of Excellence and in its graduate schools, among them research master programs and research internships.
