A clearly defined understanding of internationalization, shared by the university as a whole, is fundamental to the internationalization strategy and its dynamic and successful implementation. Our internationalization strategy is the result of intensive university-wide discussions in which all six faculties committed to general internationalization concepts, as well as each taking on strategies tailored to their specific case.
The necessary institutional structures as well as a system of incentives, funding programs and fiscal measures are all part of a catalogue of measures for the implementation of this strategy paper. These will be continually reviewed, developed and monitored by the German Rectors’ Conference (“HRK”) with the Audit "Internationalization of Universities".
The University of Cologne has a structure in place for the implementation of its internationalization strategy, anchored within the university’s management as well as the faculties and administration. This is coordinated by the Vice-Rector for International Affairs, with the support of the International Office and its student services as well as academic staff, the Welcome Center and overseas international liaison offices. The rectorate will also appoint professors as ambassadors in order to strengthen its presence in certain regions.
The faculties will also define their own internationalization concepts, to be implemented in respective Centers for International Relations.
The International Office strengthens the internationalisation of the University of Cologne. It provides a range of services to students, scientists and professors. Furthermore it develops and fosters the international relations of the University of Colgne.
The Welcome Centre "Albert's International Assistance" provides consulting and support for foreign schloars and their hosts at the Institutes and Semniars of the University of Cologne.
Centres for International Relations (ZIB)
The Centres for International Relations conduct and ccordinate multifarious internbational projects regarding teaching and reserach on faculty level.
Communications and Marketing (Division 8)
The Division Communications and Marketing coordinates international public relations. They also develop and carry out marketing measures established in the University's institutional strategy for excellence.
International Liaison Offices of UoC
The University of Cologne operates liaison offices for three central world regions: Northamerica, China and India. The offices and "ambassadors" of the University carry out administrative and represantative tasks.
