Short-term Programs, an Internationalization Strategy to Diversify Education Abroad Participation

June 1, 2022,  2:30 PM (MDT) – 3:20 | Denver

The Covid-19 pandemic grounded virtually all education abroad programs to a halt for more than a year. Coupled with this is the global racial reckoning about diversity, equity and inclusion for historically underserved students for participating in studying abroad opportunities. With this in mind, the University of Cologne New York Office will be part of a joint session on short-term programs with representatives from the DAAD, Xavier University of Louisiana and the California Polytechnic University, Pomona.

The session explores strategies to increase and diversify education abroad experiences for underrepresented students by generating institutional support, collaborating with global partners, and funding agencies, while supporting overall campus internationalization. It answers directly the NAFSA Conference call’s to highlight “(t)he role of education abroad in building social, economic, and environmental justice, and especially in promoting access, equity, diversity and inclusion, and strategies and offerings that foster economic and programmatic sustainability in education abroad.”
