The Albertus Magnus Center (AMC) was delighted to welcome more than 80 guests to its summer reception on June 06, 2019. Doctoral candidates, postdocs and their family members came together for an exchange on the topic “When Science meets Family – how can I combine a scientific career with family life?”
After a short introduction about the general AMC offer and a welcome word from its speaker Prof. Dr. Dr. Andreas Speer, the interactive exchange started. The participants discussed in small groups about different aspects of compatibility, for example if there is a perfect time to start a family. After the exchange, Johanna Lissek, team member of the AMC and Dual Career & Family Support (CFS), gave an overview of the support offers for parents at the UoC. Doctoral candidates and postdocs from all faculties attended the interactive exchange. The own experiences with the compatibility of science and children could be brought into the workshop. Some of the participants brought their kids, who enjoyed to play with the toys from the AMC kidsbox.
The direct exchange of experiences and information could be continued during the second part of the summer reception – the barbeque. Beside food and drinks, AMC team members provided further information about the support offers for early career researchers at the UoC at an info table. Meanwhile, the children had a lot of fun at the handicraft table.
It was a pleasant summer evening with inspiring talks, chats over food and drinks, childrens’ entertainment and a relaxed atmosphere.
